Senior PKK member was shot dead in Sulaimani downtown, police say

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A senior member of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) was shot dead in Sulaimani downtown on Tuesday, police said.

45-old-woman code-named Zilan was shot dead in Sulaimani city Baxtiary neighborhood in early of the morning, according to police.

Spokesman of police Sarkawt Ahmad elaborated on the shooting incident and told ESTA that the woman was passing by when a vehicle was stopped over and shot the woman dead.

45-year-old, her original name was Nagahan Akarsal, police also said the suspects fired 11 bullets but only four of them were marked on her body, the rest targeted the surrounding houses and vehicles.

Akarsal’s body is transferred to Sulaimani forensic medicine to perform the autopsy for the investigations.

An image of Akarsal circulated on Social media while appearing on a TV channel affiliated with the PKK amid an interview, ETSA could not verify the image.
