PUK President meets General Directorate of Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Group

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani met the General Directorate of the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) in Sulaimani on Tuesday.

Talabani met Director of the counter-terrorism forces Wahab Halabjay at the PUK politburo along with several senior commanders of the CTG.

The two sides discussed the fight against the Islamic State remnants and the execution of the court’s decisions with the rule of law, Talabani’s office in a statement said.

President Talabani extended his gratitude to the CTG forces for preserving security, stability, and countering terrorism. He also asked them to continue with the same spirit and national stance in their duty to eradicate terrorism and protection of citizens’ lives.

They also talked over the intelligence and military cooperation between the agencies in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq to confront terrorism.

Talabani told the CTG commanders that “It is your duty and other Kurdistan Region security forces with Peshmerga forces as well to assist shoulder to shoulder with the Iraqi security forces to confront the terrorism threats, particularly in the areas that have security vacuums.”
