SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Shiite coordination framework is taking steps to reopen the Iraqi parliament sessions and directed a request to the caretaker government upon the same matter, said a member of the Iraqi council of representatives on Sunday.
Member of the Iraqi parliament Saer Mukhif during a press statement told the reporters, that the coordination framework parties and its aligned forces are taking new steps to reopen the parliament sessions, asking to take place shortly.
More than 200 MPs have signed a request in different political factions, according to Mukhif’s words.
“It has been asked to the caretaker Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi to safeguard the sessions,” He said.
Mukhif also said the presidency of the Iraqi council of representatives should express full commitment and coordinate to secure safety and space to reopen the sessions, without further delay.
The latest session of the Iraqi parliament took place in July, precisely on 23 of that month, dedicated to talks on Turkey’s violations of Iraq’s sovereignty. One week after, the supporters of Muqtada al-Sadr stormed the legislative building and staged a sit-in, since then it has been paralyzed.
At least ten-month has passed since a parliamentary election in October, but MPs have failed to vote for the new government due to dispute among the parties and mainly the Shiites.
