Directorate of security forces in Sulaimani detain Islamic State-linked active cell

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The directorate of security forces (Asayish) in Sulaimani detained an active cell of Islamic State-linked terror group in the province that plotted to assassinate several commanders of Peshmerga and religious figures.  

The directorate of security forces (Asayish) in a statement said, the operation department from the directorate has detained an IS-linked active cell consisted 17 members from the different areas of Sulaimani province, among whom were two women.

“They influenced by Islamic State extremist terror group notions through social media and start to publish its propagandas,” Asayish said.

The cell was detained based on intelligence information in separate operations and plotted to assassinate several commanders from the Kurdish Peshmerga forces as well as prominent religious figures, according to the statement.

“After collecting concrete evidence and receiving the judge’s decision the operations have launched” Asayish added, all of them were detained during August.
