Local security forces in Raparin detain four suspects over narcotic offenses

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The local Security forces directorate (Asayish) in the Raparin district announced on Wednesday that it detained four suspects over narcotic offenses.

Asayish in a statement said, after launching a probe, it detained four suspects in the Raparin district of Sulaimani province.

During the campaign, a number of narcotic Drugs were seized by Asayish as well, and the suspects are being held by the judge’s decision, awaits on the completion of the investigations, the directorate said.

Drug trafficking has gone up inside the Kurdistan Region side by side with consumption of it, according to authorities. Border areas turned into a hotspot for Narcotic business and its distribution.

the business became more frequent, in particular in those areas that have shared borders with Iran, officials have stated most of the drug substances are imported illegally by smugglers, and they utilized harsh geographical conditions.

So far, no drugs have been manufactured in the Kurdistan Region, and the existing narcotics are always being imported from neighborhood countries, spokesperson of local security forces (Asayish) in Sulaimani Yasin Abdul-Samia said.
