SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Two drones targeted American compound run by U.S. troops and U.S. – backed Syrian opposition forces in eastern Syria on Monday, the U.S military said, adding that there were zero casualties.

Two drones laden with explosive charges hit U.S. compound in the vicinity of al-Tanf base near where the borders of Syria, Jordan, and Iraq meet. There was no claim of responsibility for the attack.

The U.S. and coalition troops are based in al-Tanf to base train Maghaweir al-Thowra, a U.S.-backed Syrian opposition military group to fight against Islamic State militants.

“Operation Inherent Resolve forces, in coordination with our Maghaweir al-Thowra partners, responded to an attack by multiple unmanned aerial systems in the vicinity of Al-Tanf Garrison,” the U.S. military said in a statement.

Troops have prevented one of the drones before it hit the target preventing its impact while a second one detonated within the opposition forces’ compound, “resulting in zero casualties or reported damage,” It added.

Years after when the civil war erupted in 2011, a decade of conflict in Syria has killed hundreds of thousands of people, Islamic State militants still operate in the deserts of central and eastern the country, where they have mounted several attacks this year against Kurdish led-groups and the coalition forces.
