PMF exposes its stance toward Sadr’s call for holding another early election

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Chairman of the popular mobilization forces on Thursday replied to the Sadrist movement leader’s call for another early election in the country.

Chairman of pro-Iran armed force (PMF) or (Hashed al-Shaabi) Falih al-Fayadh in reply to Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr who also leads his social as well as influential political movement of the Sadrist in Iraq said, “The repetition of the election will not take place only by Sadr’s will”.

The chairman’s word’s ensued when Muqtada al-Sadr on Wednesday during a live televised speech called for another early election and the dissolution of the current parliament, he rejected all calls for dialogue and urged his followers to continue the so-called peaceful revolution.

“The dissolution of the parliament is no more an issue that relates to Sadr,” Falih al-Fayadh said.

“The election will be only repeated when there is consistent of all parties”, Fayadh explained that “Iraq’s political system is consensus it is not allowed for any party to impose its stance”.

The current government is a caretaker and has no authority to hold another early election, so far, the Shiite coordination framework has not decided yet on its stance regarding the repletion of the general elections, according to Fayadh’s words.

“Head of the al-Fateh alliance Hadi al-Amiri is dispatched to represent the coordination in the negotiations, PMF will not be a side in this situation” he added.

Iraq held its last parliamentary elections in October 2021, However, political disagreements among parties have hindered the parliament from electing a president and forming a government, and electing a new president.

Iraq is trapped inside deep political impasses. The current political unrest is triggered by a prolonged political deadlock. Nearly 10 months after national elections were held, Iraq has been unable to form a new government. That’s the longest period since the 2003 U.S. invasion that reset the political order.
