“We welcome any initiative to normalize Iraq’s situation” says PUK president

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Bafel Jalal Talabani on Tuesday welcomed the initiatives to normalize Iraq’s situation.

“It is the duty of all of us to treat this situation with a responsible spirit,” Bafel Talabani in a statement said.

“We should make understanding and dissuasion the basis to resolve the problems, all of us shall work for sake of peace and stability, together build a stable future for the citizens and fulfill our top objectives,” Talabani said.

Earlier, the Iraqi Prime minister on Monday in a message launched an initiative, demanding all parties to stay calm and reduce the tensions, in order to launch an initiative for a solution on a national basis, the Iraqi news agency reported.

Spokesperson to the Iraqi government Hassan Nadhim said, the Prime Minister demands the parties to hold real talks and the government supports any initiative in the direction to the resolve of any unrests or issues.

The PUK president stressed in the statement that Mam Jalal’s Palace in Baghdad as well as in Dabashan of Sulaimani is the home for all political parties.

“We welcome any initiative that aims to reach a national agreement and rescue the country from the trapped situation” Talabani added.

Talabani also called on all of the Iraqi parties to put the nation’s interest before personal ones and make efforts for a brighter future, adding that our people in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region has made a lot of sacrifices, and it is the duty of all sides to serve them, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the PUK politburo said, “We were monitoring the latest developments with deep concern that our country is passing through, reiterating that we warmly welcome any initiatives and national efforts that are exposed”.
