Peshmerga, Iraqi army launch joint uprooting operation of Islamic State remnants

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Peshmerga forces held a joint operation with the Iraqi army on Wednesday in Qarachogh mountain, a disputed area between the Federal government and the Kurdistan Region.

According to information received by Esta Media Network, the Peshmerga forces in coordination with the Iraqi army have launched an uprooting operation aimed at eradicating the Islamic State (IS) remnants in 60KM Southeast of Erbil province.

Esta Media Network has also learned that the joint operation has begun yesterday, so far, no confrontation occurred, and the (IS) militants have fled.

The disputed areas between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi government is one of the stuck topics between them, including the Kirkuk province and parts of Nineveh and Salahuddin provinces (north) and Diyala province (east).

This situation resulted in a security vacuum between the Iraqi army and the Kurdish forces Peshmerga in favor of Daesh/ISIS and other terror groups. It has been always utilized by terrorists in order to carry out sudden attacks.

In 2020, Baghdad and Erbil have formed joint military coordination centers to cooperate and exchange information to crack down on Daesh/IS remnants in the disputed area.
