Iraq is at forefront countries for traffic accidents: health ministry

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq is at the forefront countries for traffic accidents, the average number of deaths per day was 13 persons in 2021, according to the Iraqi health ministry on Wednesday.

The General Director for medical services in the Iraqi ministry of health said, “Iraq is in the forefront countries for traffic accidents”.

He also added, “In 2021 the deaths due to traffic accidents reached 4,863 persons”, noting that “In Baghdad, the most deaths were recorded and after that is Babil governorate”.

“Dhi-Qar governorate is in the vanguard for recoding zero deaths in 2021,” he said.

Iraq is one of the countries that suffer from poor quality roads and bad traffic conditions, particularly in the outskirts of the big cities, according to the latest reports in 2021, traffic accidents are the leading cause of death in the country.

%39.9 of deaths are caused by traffic accidents in the country, and most of them occurred either by trucks or motorbikes.
