Turkish drone strike kills five people in Mosul

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Turkish drone strike targeted a vehicle in Mosul, at least seven casualties were reported, the director of Snune town told Esta Media Network.

Director Xwdeda Chuke in a statement told Esta that on Sunday afternoon, a Turkish drone strike targeted a vehicle inside Mosul’s city center, causing the killing of five people according to preliminary information, and leaving two wounded.

“Up to this point the reason for the strike remained unclear, however, Turkey has a military base in Bamarne which is close to the area”, and “the Kurdistan worker’s party have attacked it several times,” he said.

Following the incident, Erbil-based Kurdistan Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) in a statement announced, that the drone targeted the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) members saying, “five PKK militants were killed in the attack”.

“The victims include four men along with a woman” it added.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi media reports on the attack refuse such claims of targeting PKK members. In contrast one of the victims was a student at Mosul University, his nationality was Arab, and belongs to Jibouri tribe, according to the Iraqi news outlets reports.
