SULAIMANI (ESTA) — At least one Kolbar (porter) was killed and 19 others were wounded by Iranian forces in May, according to a human rights organization.

Hengaw Organization for Human Rights said in a monthly report that one Kolbar was killed by the Iranian forces in Sanandaj last month.

As many as 17 others were wounded by “direct shots” of the Iranian forces, said Hengaw, which monitors human rights in Iranian Kurdistan.

Two other Kolbars were wounded by the Iranian forces using gun butt and batons, the organization added. Two others were injured by natural disaster.

Kolbars carry goods across the mountainous border between Iran, Iraq and Turkey on their backs. They frequently come under fire from Iranian border guards.
