Coordiantion framework supports PUK candidate for Iraq’s president

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Political compromise is in progress between the “Shiite coordination framework” and the “Sovereignty” Sunni alliance, both sides support the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) candidate for the president of the republic, said MP on Thursday.

A political compromise is in progress between both parties, in order to take a step toward the formation of the next Iraqi government, said Member of Iraqi Parliament Ahmad Abdul-Hussien from Fatah Alliance.

“We concluded to the compromise stage after Sadr’s withdrawal from the political process,” Abdul-Hussein said in a statement to Iraq’s news outlets.

“Coordination framework supports PUK’s candidate for the Iraqi president position,” he said.

Abdul-Hussien’s words coincide with the Iraqi parliament’s extraordinary meeting scheduled on Thursday aimed to give confidence to new MPs in order to replace the vacant seats of Sadrist lawmakers after they resigned with 73 seats earlier.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party has been ordered by the party’s leadership, to take a part in Thursday’s extraordinary session, Esta Media Network has learned.

The Sadrist lawmaker’s vacant seats will be replaced by the losing candidates with the highest number of votes in their respective constituencies, Said Iraq’s Parliament presidency on Wednesday.
