SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The region’s instability is linked to the presence of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) and thus must be ended, Kurdistan Region Minister of Interior Rebar Ahmad said on Sunday in a press conference.

“PKK presence in the region is caused instability for the area,” he said.

“The Kurdistan Region would not complain in any Iraq’s court against PKK presence in Sinjar”, and “Iraq must take any measures to protect citizens of those areas” he added.

Ahmad further stated that we coordinate with Iraq in order to end the PKK presence in those areas in particular Sinjar, according to the press conference.

“The presence of the PKK prevents the implementation of the agreement that Baghdad and Erbil concluded to normalize the situation in Sinjar” Ahmad quoted.

On Sunday, Top Iraq’s military deletion arrived in Erbil to meet with high-ranking Kurdish officials.

The PKK managed to establish its stronghold in Sinjar in 2014 under the pretext of protecting the local Ezidi community from the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group.

Due to the Hostilities between PKK and Turkey, Sinjar became a center of competition and conflict, resulting in a massive loss for the locals.

However, The Kurdistan Region government has signed an agreement with the Federal government regarding the normalization of Sinjar’s situation and PKK withdrawal in that region. But so far, the agreement has not gone into effect.
