SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Sulaimani reported eight death since the ‘Diarrhea’ and ‘Vomiting’ outbreak in June, an informed source from the city’s health directorate told Esta Media Network on Sunday.

Until this moment eight people died composed of six adults and two children, the source said.

“Several samples have been sent to Baghdad in order to confirm whether it is a Cholera outbreak or not,” it added.

For that purpose, a committee from Iraq’s health ministry arrived in Sulaimani on Sunday, and the city’s health directorate will announce the results of Baghdad’s samples, according to the source.

During the past six days four thousand patients including adults and children, have been hospitalized, said the general directorate of Sulaimani health.

“The hospitals are overwhelmed with the patients,” it said.

Earlier on Wednesday, the general directorate of Sulaimani health said in a press conference, that a massive amount of Diarrhea cases have been received at the hospitals in Sulaimani and it might be a Cholera breakout in the city.

“According to global standards every six years a cholera breakout erupts, and it is classified as the worst type of Diarrhea,” he said.

“Therefore, there is high doubt on Cholera breakout” he added.

Cholera is an acute diarrheal illness caused by infection of the intestine with Vibrio cholera bacteria, People can get sick when they swallow food or water contaminated with cholera bacteria, The infection is often mild or without symptoms, but can sometimes be severe and life-threatening.

The disease becomes more common during the hot seasons particularly summer in the Kurdistan Region due to high-temperature degrees.
