Warplane bombs two areas in Kurdistan’s district of Mawat: authorities

Smoke rises after Turkish warplanes bomb as a vehicle carrying four people in Kanilan village in Sulaimani province, June 13, 2021.

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Unknown warplanes bombed two areas twice in Mawat district in north of Sulaimani on Tuesday, authorities said in a statement.

The district’s mayor office said a warplane bombed Dukanyan and Gomasd areas in foothills of Asos mountain near Galala village at 04:45 p.m. (EBL) time.

The airstrikes didn’t cause casualties, it added, but expressed concern over the continuity of the bombardment.

“We hope this area won’t become a field of bombardment and destruction,” the mayor’s office said.

It wasn’t clear who carried out the airstrikes, but Turkey intermittently targets suspected positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region.
