Iran’s claim about presence of Israel in Iraq is unsubstantiated: foreign minister

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iran has no evidence regarding the presence of Israel in northern Iraq, the minister of foreign affairs Fuad Hussein told ‘Baghdad al-Youm’ on Saturday.

On April 14, Iraq’s foreign minister Fuad Hussein visited Iran to meet with his counterpart in Teheran, accompanied by a high Iraqi military delegation to discuss the missile attack carried out by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).

Twelve missiles launched by (IRGC) struck Erbil city, Kurdistan Region in the early hours of Sunday, March 13, following the incident (IRGC) had claimed the responsibility for the missile attack and said, they had launched the attack against Israeli “strategic centers” in Erbil.

However, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) had rejected that claim in an official statement and said: “The attack only targeted civilian residential areas, not sites belonging to foreign countries”.

In an interview conducted by ‘Baghdad al-Youm’ on Saturday, Iraq’s foreign minister revealed the content of his meeting with his counterpart in Tehran.

“The Iranian side informed us about the presence of the Mossad at the missile-targeted headquarters, but it did not provide any concrete or clear evidence about the bombing,” Iraq’s foreign minister Fuad Hussein told ‘Baghdad al-Youm’ during the interview.

The Iranian side spoke without providing any evidence, “Iran’s claim to submit the evidence to the Iraqi intelligence before the missile bombing is false, and no clue of the Israeli presence ever reached Baghdad” Hussein added regarding the content of the April meeting with Iranian officials.

Iran has formally blamed the Kurdistan Region several times for hosting the Israeli Intelligence agency in the Kurdistan Region’s territory.

But the officials in the Region have repeatedly rejected such claims regarding the presence of any Israeli entity in the region and calling upon it as baseless.
