SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Iraqi officials on Thursday condemned a bomb-laden drone strike on Erbil, saying the Iraqi security services against outlaws must be consolidated.

Late on Wednesday a bomb-laden drone hit the Erbil-Pirmam road, and wounded at least three civilians, the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism group or ‘Kurdistan CT’ confirmed in a statement.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the drone strike.

Iraqi President Barham Salih condemned the drone attack on Erbil in a tweet.

“The attack on the city of Erbil is a condemned and reprehensible criminal act targeting national efforts,” The Iraqi President said.

“We must stand firmly against attempts to plunge the country into chaos” and, “the Country’s security services against outlaws must be consolidated” he added.

Meanwhile, Iraq’s Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi held a phone call with the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister on Wednesday regarding the drone attack.

Al-Kadhimi condemned by saying “The attack on the city of Erbil, with a drone, translates the insistence of some to perpetuate the logic of chaos and strike the concepts of the state”

“The government rejects all forms of intimidation of citizens and assault on Law and the state” he further added.

While on the other hand, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) called on the attack ‘Another reckless act’ in a tweet.

“Iraq does not need self-proclaimed armed arbiters,” the tweet said

“Asserting State authority is essential. If the perpetrators are known, call them out and hold them to account” it added.

Erbil has been hit several times by both drone and Missile strikes, it usually targets the United States compounds and the coalition bases that host U.S. troops in the city.

Recently on March, 12 missiles were fired by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards at a residential area in Erbil city, the (IRGC) had claimed the responsibility officially, and said they were targeting a strategic Israeli base in the city, while the Kurdistan Region government had officially rejected the presence of any Israeli compound in the region.
