SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq on Wednesday announced the production of a first domestic drone.
Head of Iraq’s military industry board Mohammed al-Daraji said the drone, called “Saqar 1”, made its first flight over Iraq, according to the Iraqi news agency.
The drone ascends four kilometers and can fly a distance of nearly 30 kilometers, Daraji told INA.
“There is a great development in the military industries, including mortar bombs and drones,” he was quoted as saying.
In April, Daraji told state-run Al Iraqiya News that the federal government was producing two types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). Their manufacture was being done in partnership with the private sector, he added.
