Baghdad restaurant building collapses in possible gas blast

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — An explosion at a restaurant caused the building to collapse in Baghdad on Sunday, according to Iraqi media.

Iraqi media reported that the explosion occurred at Layla restaurant in Jadriyah neighborhood on Sunday morning.

Iraq’s civil defense directorate said its teams arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and that they had begun a rescue operation.

“There are people trapped in the collapsed building,” it said in a statement.

A security source said an issue in the restaurant’s gas system had caused the blast, according to Shafaq News.
