SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region’s ministry of Peshmerga said on Friday the Kurdish forces were attacked by sniper rifles in northeast of Duhok province late on Thursday.

In a statement, the Peshmerga ministry said one Peshmerga was wounded in the attack in Kani Masi village in Bamarne sub-district late on Thursday.

The ministry added that mortar shells were also fired at Aradna village in the sub-district on Thursday night, killing two children and wounding two others.

“We announce that the Peshmerga forces and Kurdistan’s people are concerned about those actions and all sides must understand that the protection of security and peace of people and Kurdistan’s territory is the priority of Peshmerga,” it said.

The ministry stressed that conflicts on the Kurdistan Region’s borders should not affect the Peshmerga forces “any more”, calling on the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to not use peace and coexistence in those areas to carry out attacks.

“It will no longer be allowed to disrupt the security and peace of people and put lives of people and Peshmerga in danger.”

Earlier, the PKK military wing, the People’s Defense Forces (HPG), denied claims that it shelled areas in Bamarne sub-district on Thursday.

“Some KDP officials and media are trying to blame the incident on the guerrillas,” it said in a statement. “This attempt is the result of fear of Kurdish people’s dissatisfaction.”

“The guerrilla forces deal a deadly blow to the Turkish military,” it added, noting Turkey wants to “create chaos and civil war for the Kurds through some forces within the KDP”.

Esta Media Network reporter in Duhok said the two children were killed during Turkish air strikes on the village of Zewa in Bamarni sub-district.
