SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A fire broke out at a displacement camp for Yazidis in Duhok province early on Sunday, destroying eight tents, a local official said.
Head of press office at Duhok civil defense Bewar Abdulaziz said the fire broke out at Khanke camp at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.
“The fire burned down eight tents,” he told Esta Media Network.
He further said a committee had been formed to investigate the cause of the fire.
Since January, at least five fire incidents took place at displacement camps for Yazidis who fled Sinjar in 2014 due to Islamic State (ISIS) attacks in the district. On April 13, a fire that broke out at Chamshko camp killed a 27-year-old-man and wounded seven others.
In January, a six-year-old girl was killed in a fire that broke out at Esyan displacement camp in Sheikhan district.
