Sulaimani airport suspends flights due to heavy snowfalls

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Flights at Sulaimani airport has been suspended due to heavy snowfalls in the province, the airport said on Thursday.

A wave of snow hit the Kurdistan Region on Wednesday night, with Sulaimani seeing over 15 centimeters of snow.

Sulaimani international airport said several flights were delayed due to heavy snowfalls in the airport.

“Airport teams under the supervision of engineer Tahur Abdullah, the general director of the airport, are working to clear snow from the airport’s taxiways and runway,” it said in a statement.

Flights will resume as soon as the airport is cleared of snow, it added.

According to the airport’s site, flights from and to Beirut, Madina, Amman and Franfurt were cancelled while a flight from Baghdad was delayed.
