Bafel Jalal Talabani meets commander of Coalition forces in Iraq and Syria

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Bafel Jalal Talabani met with Major General John Brennan, Commander of Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria, in Sulaimani city on Wednesday, according to his office.

The two sides discussed coordination between Iraqi and Kurdistan Region’s security agencies as well as a new strategy to confront Islamic State (ISIS) remnants during the meeting attended by general director of counter-terrorism in forces in Sulaimani Wahab Halabjaiy, Talabani’s office said in a statement.

They also stressed the expansion of communication and military and intelligence cooperation between the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the Coalition forces in an effort to overcome challenges and to protect security and stability in the country, the statement read.

Regarding ISIS remnants in Iraq, Talabani said coordination between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, joint military actions and reactivating operations rooms “are important factors” to protect security and stability of the country.

“We need understanding and mutual strategy to achieve that,” he added, according to the statement.

“Coordination should continue and all efforts should be for the sake of protecting people’s lives and tranquility.”
