Four Katyusha rockets land near military base hosting Turkish troops in Nineveh

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — At least four Katyusha rockets fall near a Turkish military base in Nineveh province on Sunday, a local official said.

Mayor of Zlikan area Mohammed Amin Gharib said the rockets targeted the Bashiqa base housing Turkish troops in the area, according to Xinhua.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but militant groups operating in the country had targeted the base in the past months.

The attack came one week after Turkey launched a cross-border operation against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Duhok province.

Iraq has repeatedly accused Turkey of violating its sovereignty by entering its territory without permission, including Turkey’s military presence in the Bashiqa base.

Turkey regularly conducts cross-border operations on the PKK bases in the Kurdistan Region, despite Iraq’s repeated protests.
