Kurdistan president, UK defense advisor stress importance of continued coordination

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and a British senior defense advisor stressed the importance of continued coordination to safeguard peace and stability in the region, according to a statement.

President Barzani met with UK’s Senior Defense Advisor for the Middle East and North Africa Lieutenant-General John Lorimer in Erbil on Wednesday, the Region’s presidency said.

Barzani and Lorimer discussed the general situation in Iraq and the region, the statement read.

“The two sides stressed the need and importance of the continuation of coordination and cooperation in order to safeguard peace and stability in the wider region,” the statement said.

The British defense advisor reaffirmed the continuation of the UK support to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the presidency stated.

They also discussed the latest developments in the fight against terrorism and Islamic State (ISIS) militants and talks between Erbil and Baghdad to resolve their issues as well as the security situation on the Region’s borders.
