Part of hospitals in Sulaimani to halt services due to lack of medicine, equipment

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Part of hospitals in Sulaimani will halt services due to shortages of medicine and equipment, the general directorate of health said on Sunday.

Spokesman of Sulaimani’s General-Directorate of Health Saman Sheikh Latif said the centers included Hiwa hospital, maternity hospital, Dr. Jamal Ahmed Rashid maternity hospital, cardiac hospital, and blood bank in Sulaimani city.

Shortages of medicine and medical equipment have emerged in Sulaimani since last year due to the government’s failure to provide financial entitlements to the companies supplying medicine to the province.

Last month, deputy director of health Herish Said Salim warned that the hospitals could turn to “hotels” if the issue wasn’t resolved.

“If the issue isn’t resolved, part of the hospitals in Sulaimani would become like hotels and patients would only get benefit from them for staying due to shortages of medicine and medical equipment,” he told Esta Media Network.
