SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Erbil Governor Firsat Sofi died from coronavirus at the age of 42 early on Wednesday, a local official said.
Head of Erbil Provincial Council Ali Rashid confirmed to Esta Media Network that the governor had died in Ankara.
The Erbil governor was infected with COVID-19 last month and was transferred to Ankara on November 3 to receive treatment.
Sofi was born in 1978 in Choman district in northeast of Erbil. He became the Erbil governor in September 2019.
He was a member of the Kurdistan Parliament from 2013 to 2017. He also was a member of legal consultant’s board in the Kurdistan Region Presidency and a member of a committee to rewrite the Region’s constitution as well as a member of high committee of reform.
