SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdish Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said on Sunday Islamic State (ISIS) attack on the Peshmerga forces reaffirms the importance of continued coordination between the Region and Baghdad.

ISIS militants attacked Peshmerga forces near Prde in south of Erbil late on Saturday, killing two members of the Kurdish forces.

A Peshmerga source told Esta Media Network that the militants used PKC machine gun in the attack against Peshmerga in Zrga Zraw area on Kirkuk frontline.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of two brave Peshmergas, Khalid Hamid Hayas Kakai and Ako Karim Qadir, martyred in last night’s attack by ISIS terrorists in Pirde,” Barzani said in a tweet.

“This attack reaffirms the importance of continued coordination between the KRG and the federal govt with the support of the International Coalition in confronting ISIS threats, particularly to fill the security vacuum in the disputed territories,” he added, referring to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Earlier on Sunday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani said the attack proved the fact that Islamic State is still a “real threat” to the country’s security and tranquility.
