SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Iraqi government on Wednesday announced a two-day holiday for the annual Kurdish celebration of Newroz.
In a statement, general secretariat of the Iraqi Council of Ministers said Sunday and Monday would be holiday in the government’s institutions on the occasion of Newroz.
Newroz falls on March 21 and marks the arrival of spring and the new year in Kurdish culture. It is one of the key celebrations in the Kurdistan Region. People will wear traditional Kurdish clothes and go on picnics where they celebrate the occasion with eating foods and dancing.
Last week, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced a five-day holiday for Newroz, starting from March 20.
