SULAIMANI (ESTA) — At least seven Islamic State (ISIS) militants were killed in airstrikes in Kirkuk and Saladin provinces, according to authorities.

Iraq’s warplane carried out two airstrikes on Thursday night in an ISIS hideout in Dibis district, northwest of Kirkuk, said the media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, according to Xinhua news agency.

The airstrikes killed four ISIS militants, including a local leader, it added.

Three other militants were killed in a strike during an operation carried out by the Iraqi army to hunt down ISIS militants near Samara city in Saladin province, said Yehia Rasool, spokesman for commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

Islamic State controlled roughly a third of Iraq between 2014 and 2017. Iraqi forces and Kurdish troops backed by U.S.-led Coalition forces as well as Iran-backed Shia militias defeated the militant group in 2017, but its members still roam areas of northern Iraq and northeastern Syria.
