SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Sunni leaders including parliament speaker met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul on Saturday, according to state news agency.
Parliament speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi, leader of the Taqaddum Party, and Khamis al-Khanjar, leader of Azim Party, held a meeting with Erdogan in Istanbul, the official Iraqi news agency reported.
The leaders discussed bilateral relations, coordination and cooperation between the two countries, including economy and trade, INA said.
The Iraqi leaders called on Turkey to facilitate the issuance of visa to Iraqis during the meeting, Halbousi’s office said in a statement, according to INA.
Erdogan directed “to take the necessary measures in that regard,” the statement read.
He also expressed Turkey’s support for “Iraq and its constitutional institutions and the continuation of cooperation and coordination to achieve security, service and stability of the Iraqi people”, the statement said.
