Erbil police detain 100 people over ‘prostitution’ – source

The detainees include 70 women, according to a police source

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Police in Erbil have detained 100 people over alleged prostitution in the city, a source told Esta Media Network on Wednesday.

A source in the general directorate of police in Erbil said the suspects were detained in one of the night clubs in the city.

The night club in one of the tourist communities has been opened for over eight years, said the source, who spoke under condition of anonymity.

A detachment of Erbil police raided the night club late on Tuesday and arrested 100 people, including 70 women.

“The detainees are accused of prostitution,” the source added.

The detainees are from the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, Syria and Iran, according to the police source.

“Most of them were tourists, and part of the men had brought the women with themselves,” the source noted.
