SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Sixty-two Syrians were arrested by the Iraqi forces on the border between Iraq and Syria, the military said on Tuesday.

“The security forces were able to detain 62 infiltrators of Syrian nationality in continuation of their operations to monitor and secure the borders,” said Iraqi security media cell.

It further said the group was arrested in areas between the border guards and the Peshmerga forces, without giving further details.

Iraqi forces have detained dozens of people including Syrians for attempting to cross the border between Syria and Iraq in the past months.

In December, the Iraqi forces detained six Syrians in a “tight ambush” in west of Nineveh province.

In November, the security forces detained 15 Syrians in the village of Mushairfa in Rabia district after they crossed the border between Syria and Iraq.
