SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq’s police detained six Islamic State (ISIS) suspects in Mosul city, authorities said on Saturday.

The directorate of police in Nineveh province said police units arrested three ISIS suspects wanted in accordance with Article 4 of the counter-terrorism law.

Separately, police detained another ISIS suspect in Mosul, state news agency INA cited the directorate as saying.

Two other ISIS suspects were arrested in Karama district on the left coast of Mosul, it said in a statement.

Mosul was held by ISIS militants for three years after they controlled roughly a third of Iraq between 2014 and 2017.

Iraqi forces and Kurdish troops backed by U.S.-led Coalition forces as well as Iran-backed Shia militias defeated the militant group in 2017, but its members still roam areas of northern Iraq and northeastern Syria.
