SULAIMANI (ESTA) — U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) detained one of the “most dangerous fugitive” emir of Islamic State (ISIS) in a joint operation with the Coalition forces in Syria, a spokesman for the group said on Saturday.

Head of SDF Media Center Farhad Shami said the group’s special task units and the coalition forces arrested Mohammed Abid al-Awad, nicknamed Rasheed, in a joint security operation.

He was “one of the most dangerous fugitive emirs of Daesh & responsible for many terrorist operations, including something to attack the Gwayran prison,” Shami said in a tweet.

He further said the ISIS emir led a battalion of “Tanks and Vehicles” during an attack on Kobane in 2014, commuting “countless massacres against our people” in southeast Syria.

“Then, he disappeared, impersonating many fake names,” he added.
