Iraqi counter-terrorism forces surround Baghdad airport amid protests

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Forces surrounded Baghdad international airport on Saturday, as supporters of Hashid al-Shaabi attempted to enter the airport.

Dozens of supporters of Hashid al-Shaabi passed the first gate of Baghdad airport, trying to enter an area where top Iranian  commander Qasem al-Soleimani and Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were killed in a U.S. drone attack in January 2020, Iraqi media reported.

“The security forces tried to peacefully prevent the protesters from moving forward,” a security forces told Shafaq News.

A large number of the counter-terrorism forces surrounded the airport to prevent the protesters from entering the airport.
