SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi forces arrested six more Syrians as they were crossing the border between Syria and Iraq, authorities said on Saturday.

Iraq’s border guard command said the Syrians were detained in a “tight ambush” in west of Nineveh.

“The forces … arrested six infiltrators, who hold Syrian citizenship, while they were trying to cross the Syrian border towards our land,” it said in a statement.

Iraqi forces have detained dozens of people including Syrians for attempting to cross the border between Syria and Iraq in the past months.

Last month, the security forces detained 15 Syrians in an “ambush” in the village of Mushairfa in Rabia after they crossed the border between Syria and Iraq.

Iraq has tightened security along 600 km border with Syria to curb the movement of Islamic State (ISIS) militants, drug smuggling and other illegal activities.
