SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Security forces in Sulaimani detained a group of Islamic State (ISIS) suspects in Halabja province on Wednesday, authorities said on Thursday.
In a statement, the Directorate of Asayish in Sulaimani said the operations forces launched several operations to detain a number of members of the ISIS group in Halabja city, Said Sadiq district, Khurmal and Sirwan towns, and several villages on Wednesday.
The forces also seized a number of weapons and ammunition during the operations, it added.
The group “intended to carry out terrorist acts in Sulaimani, Halabja and Garmian administration, and to disrupt security of the Kurdistan Region,” Asayish said.
