SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq’s production of dates in the 2021 season reached 900,000 tons, said the ministry of agriculture.
“Date production was about 600,000 tons in 2019 and rose to 750,000 in 2020, while it reached nearly 900,000 tons in 2021,” Spokesman of the ministry Hameed al-Nayif told the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) on Wednesday.
He further said it is expected that Iraq would be able to export about 750,000 tons of dates to many countries, including North African countries, Turkey and Italy.
The ministry’s spokesman added that date exports are also expected to be exported to more countries than previous years.
According to the ministry’s statistics, Iraq was at the forefront of date producing countries with the number of palm trees at around 20 million, Xinhua reported on Thursday.
