SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi intelligence units killed an Islamic State (ISIS) leader in Anbar province, a military spokesman said on Monday.
The Iraqi intelligence forces raided three ISIS hideouts during an operation in Wadi al-Qadhf and Jalabat in the desert area in west of Iraq, said Yehia Rasool, spokesman for commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
The intelligence forces destroyed the three hideouts and killed Abu Al-Bara, one of the ISIS leaders, during the operation, Rasool said in a tweet, without giving further details.
In 2017 Baghdad announced victory over Islamic State (ISIS), and attacks in Iraqi cities have since become much rarer, although troops continue to fight ISIS sleeper cells in mountainous and desert areas.
The militants still mount deadly operations, mostly at night and in remote areas.
