SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) military wing once again accused Turkey of using chemical weapons during operations against its fighters in the Kurdistan Region.

The People’s Defense Forces (HPG) said Turkey had used chemical weapons nine times in one day against its fighters in Avashin region on Friday after they responded to an attack by the Turkish military.

“The occupied forces committed war crime and used chemical weapons and poison gases nine times yesterday,” the group said in a statement on Saturday.

Turkey regularly carries out air and ground attacks against the PKK in the Kurdistan Region. It says neither the Iraqi government nor the Kurdish government has taken measures to combat the group.

The Turkish military has established a dozen military bases in the Kurdistan Region’s border as part of a military campaign against the PKK.

In September, the PKK said the Turkish military had used chemical weapons against its fighters in the Kurdistan Region in the past five months.

“The U.N., Europe, the USA and many other countries think only of their own interests. It does not matter to them that Turkey is committing a genocide against the Kurds,” it said.
