SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdish Golden Force is ready to respond to recent developments in Kirkuk, waiting for orders from Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Co-president Bafel Talabani, a commander said on Wednesday.
Commander of Golden Force Barham Sheikh Mohammed told Esta Media Network that the force is ready to respond to attacks carried out against Kurds in Kirkuk on Tuesday night.
Dozens of Kurdish people, mostly youths, have been detained in Kirkuk in the past two days.
“We are waiting for orders from PUK Co-president Bafel Talabani to respond to last night’s assaults in Kirkuk,” he said.
“All the forces of Kurdistan Commando are prepared and waiting for orders,” he added.
Earlier, the PUK Politburo expressed concern of the detention of Kurdish youths in Kirkuk, saying Talabani had been in talks with Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi to release the detainees.
The developments in Kirkuk occurred after initial results of the general election showed Kurds winning six seats in the province.
