SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) rejects initial results of Iraq’s parliamentary election in Sulaimani’s fourth constituency \, the party’s branch 11 said.
In a statement, the KDP’s office in Sulaimani said the party’s candidate, Naska Abdullah, had secured 11,742 votes in the fourth constituency in Sulaimani.
The office of Iraq’s electoral commission in Sulaimani on Monday announced initial results of Sunday’s election, showing the KDP had won only one seat in the province, divided into five constituencies.
“We have results of all the general election which our representatives have obtained from the electoral commission at the polling stations, and we have obtained 13,418 votes in the general election,” the KDP’s office said.
“The results announced by the electoral commission were misrecorded, or has a hand behind it. Therefore, we completely refuse them,” it added.
It further said the KDP would file a complaint at the electoral commission, calling on the commission to review the results.
Sulaimani’s fourth constituency includes Chwarqurna, Hajiawa, Rania, Dukan, Betwata and Qaladize.
Voter turnout in Iraq reached 41 percent, according to the independent high electoral commission (IHEC). In Sulaimani, the turnout was 37%.
On Monday, the IHEC office in Sulaimani announced the initial results, showing the Kurdistan Coalition winning eight seats in the province, followed by New Generation with five seats.
The KDP’s only candidate won 6,335 votes in the fifth constituency.
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), which formed Kurdistan Coalition with Gorran Movement to take part in the election as one list, also rejected the initial results in Erbil, saying they were changed.
Kurdistan Coalition also won one seat in Erbil, according to initial results released by the IHEC office in the province.
