SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Three Islamic State (ISIS) members were killed in south of Mosul, a military spokesman said on Wednesday.
Yehia Rasool, spokesman of commander-in-chief of the armed forces, said Iraqi forces killed three “terrorists” in Hamam al-Alil area, 32 kilometers south of Mosul.
On Tuesday, Rasool said the counter-terrorism forces arrested nine ISIS militants in Anbar, Nineveh, Saladin, Baghdad and Kirkuk provinces.
The Iraqi military also announced the detention of two ISIS leaders in Anbar province on Tuesday.
Iraqi forces have increased operations against the militant group, which intermittently carries out attacks against the security forces in disputed territories where officials blame attacks on a security vacuum between the Iraqi and Kurdish forces.
Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December 2017 but the militants have regrouped in the Hamrin mountain range which extends into the northern provinces – an area described by officials as a “triangle of death”.
