SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Police and mayor of a Turkish district burned caps produced for “Kurdistan Coalition” campaign for Iraq’s parliamentary elections, according to media reports.
Police along with Salpazari mayor Refik Kurukiz raided Anadolu Hatcilik factory, manufacturing caps for the Kurdistan Coalition, formed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Gorran Movement to take part in the Iraqi elections as one list, Turkish media reported.
Gazete Duvar said police collected and burned the caps in the middle of the road in Salpazari town.
Kurukiz, who is a member of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), said he would not allow the manufacturing of “these emblems” that serve the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
“As a Turkish nationalist, we cannot allow them to be produced here,” the MHP mayor of Salpazari was quoted as saying.
“We are saddened by the fact that the emblem that will serve the PKK organization was produced here,” he added.
Officials at the factory, however, said the manufacturing of the caps was legal within the framework of laws of the Turkish state.
