SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Three Iraqi federal policemen were killed in an attack by Islamic State (ISIS) militants in southwest of Kirkuk, security sources said on Saturday, as ISIS remnants continue to attack the security forces.

ISIS militants attacked a military point where the Iraqi federal police stationed near the village of Garha Qazan in Rashad district, Iraqi media cited security sources as saying.

Three federal policemen were killed and another was injured, National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) reported.

Shafaq News, however, reported two injuries due to the attack.

ISIS remnants continue to attack civilians and security forces in Kirkuk, Nineveh, Saladin, Diyala and Baghdad provinces.

The federal government announced victory over ISIS by the end of 2017 after Iraqi and Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led Coalition regained control of areas once captured by the militant group.

Despite its defeat, ISIS still poses a threat to the security and stability of the country as there are still sleeper cells in Iraq.
