SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Two Peshmerga of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) were killed in clashes with Iranian forces in northwestern Iran, the party said on Friday.
Clashes erupted between the PDKI Peshmerga, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and units of the Iranian intelligence service on a main road linking Mahabad to Bokan early on Thursday, the party said in a statement.
Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, which monitors human rights abuses in Iranian Kurdistan, said three members of the Iranian security forces were killed in the fighting.
The PDKI said in a tweet that two of its Peshmerga “lost their lives during the clash”, adding that three intelligence agents and two members of the revolutionary guards, including a commander, were killed.
Clashes intermittently erupt between the Iranian forces and the PDKI, an armed opposition group fighting for greater autonomy for Iran’s Kurdish community, in the Kurdish areas in northwestern Iran.
