SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Minister of Oil Ihsan Abdul Jabbar said on Sunday a refinery under construction in Karbala should come on stream in September 2022, according to Reuters.
Abdul Jabbar stressed the importance of accelerating the completion of the refinery project during a visit to Karbala city, the state-run Iraqi News Agency reported.
He said when fully completed the refinery would enable Iraq to phase out 90% of the oil products it currently has to import.
The refinery contains 35 production and operation units, including four gasoline production units, fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit and a Naphtha Polycarbonate unit.
He also instructed the refinery’s management to expedite the completion of the technical measures required to supply the province’s electric power system with a capacity of 200 megawatts in summer, INA said.
