SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi counter-terrorism service said on Monday its units has detained 99 Islamic State (ISIS) suspects in the past three months, as security forces continue anti-ISIS operations in the country.

The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service said in a statement that its units had carried out 109 activities against ISIS militants across the country from January until April.

At least 34 “terrorists” were killed during the three months, it added.

Iraqi and U.S.-Coalition warplanes had also carried out 337 airstrikes against ISIS positions in different areas in the country, according to the statement.

“The recent operations witnessed a high-level intelligence and tactical effort,” the counter-terrorism service said.

Recently, Iraqi forces have stepped up efforts to detain ISIS militants in the provinces of Kirkuk, Saladin, Nineveh, Anbar and Baghdad. The security forces have detained and killed dozens of ISIS members in the past months.

Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December 2017 but the militants have regrouped in the Hamrin mountain range which extends into the northern provinces – an area described by officials as a “triangle of death”
